Oxford Journals launches innovative new GP training journal

2 April 2008

Oxford Journals is delighted to announce the launch of InnovAiT, a new journal for trainee GPs to complement their path through training, published in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

The journal is aimed at Associates in Training (AiTs) of the RCGP – those doctors undertaking specialty training for general practice in the UK from 2007 onwards. InnovAiT supports and assists the learning and development of trainees by rotating on a three-year cycle through the new GP training curriculum and assessment that leads to membership of the RCGP (MRCGP) and the Certificate of Completion of Training. Each issue covers two clinical themes and one non-clinical topic, as well as a news section highlighting important new policies, research, and guidelines affecting GPs.

The journal will also feature two regular columns: From the Trainer will provide guidance to supplement that provided by real-world trainers; and a column on exam tips from a recently qualified GP will act as a further study aid. The Journal also features test questions and welcomes contributions from trainee GPs themselves based on their experiences in training and on subjects that would be relevant to their peers.

Professor David Haslam, Chair of the Editorial Board of InnovAiT, commented: “This new journal is designed to stimulate, educate, and fascinate. The editorial team has been talking to trainee GPs to discover what their needs are, and how we can best address them. We believe that this exciting new publication will build up into an invaluable reference source, but we also want it to be a good read.”

Published monthly, print and online access to InnovAiT is a benefit of Associate in Training membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. The first issue is now available online. For further information about this title please visit the journal homepage.
