Oxford Journals and the International Society for Computational Biology announce new partnership

18 February 2009

Oxford Journals and the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) are delighted to announce a new publishing partnership. From this year, the journal Bioinformatics will once again become an official journal of the ISCB.

Bioinformatics and the ISCB have always shared close links which will be further strengthened under the new official partnership. ISCB members enjoy a substantial discount on the individual subscription price to Bioinformatics and other Oxford Journals titles, and Bioinformatics will continue to publish the annual ISMB conference Proceedings. New plans under the partnership include ISCB memberships for around 200 Bioinformatics authors each year.

Claire Bird, Senior Publisher, at Oxford Journals commented, “This agreement further cements existing links between Bioinformatics and the ISCB in what we see as a very natural fit. Going forward we see many possibilities for forging stronger links, with the aim of ensuring that the computational biology community continues to be well served by our activities.”

“Our organizations have a long history together, and we are pleased to be re-establishing Bioinformatics as an official journal of the Society. The ISCB aims to provide access to high quality publications to its members worldwide. Through Bioinformatics, Oxford Journals is well placed to support this goal.” added Scott Markel, ISCB VP and Co-Chair of the ISCB Publications Committee.

Notes to Editors

Bioinformatics publishes the highest quality scientific papers and review articles of interest to academic and industrial researchers. Its main focus is on new developments in genome bioinformatics and computational biology. Two distinct sections within the journal - Discovery Notes and Application Notes – focus on shorter papers; the former reporting biologically interesting discoveries using computational methods, the latter exploring the applications used for experiments. Bioinformatics is an optional open access journal.

The International Society for Computational Biology(ISCB) serves over 2500 members from nearly 70 countries around the world by addressing scientific policies, providing access to high quality publications, organizing meetings, and serving as a portal to information about training, education, employment and news from related fields.

Oxford Journals, a Division of OUP, publishes over 220 journals covering a broad range of subject areas, two-thirds of which are published in collaboration with learned societies and other international organizations. The collection contains some of the world's most prestigious titles, including Nucleic Acids Research, JNCI (Journal of the National Cancer Institute), Brain, Human Reproduction, English Historical Review, and the Review of Financial Studies.
