AoB PLANTS is an open-access, online journal that has been publishing peer-reviewed articles since 2010, with an emphasis on all aspects of environmental and evolutionary plant biology. Published by Oxford University Press, this journal is dedicated to rapid publication of research articles, reviews, commentaries and short communications. The taxonomic scope of the journal spans the full gamut of vascular and non-vascular plants, as well as other taxa that impact these organisms. AoB PLANTS provides a fast-track pathway for publishing high-quality research in an open-access environment, where papers are available online to anyone, anywhere free of charge.
AoB PLANTS publishes plant-focused research that has been rigorously conducted, analyzed and summarized, and placed within a strong conceptual framework. Although authors must discuss the novelty and significance of their work, the journal bases decisions to accept or reject papers solely on scientific rigour and leaves judgments about the wider importance of published works to the scientific community – via citation levels of published papers and comments about the work in various forums, including the AoB PLANTS web site, the AoB Blog and other social media outlets.
The editorial team at AoB PLANTS believes that the personal characteristics of authors (gender, ethnicity, affiliation, seniority, reputation, ability to pay open-access fee, etc.) should not influence how manuscripts are handled during the peer-review process. Thus, since its inception, AoB PLANTS has evaluated manuscripts using a double-blind process, wherein the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed during peer review.
Fast and economical
AoB PLANTS is committed to rapid assessment of submitted manuscripts and to publication online within days of acceptance. The journal strives to provide authors with initial editorial decisions within 30–40 days of submission. Our publication charge of $1000 per article is one of the lowest levied by any open-access journal in the biological sciences and illustrates the commitment of AoB PLANTS to provide an economical means for rapidly publishing research to a global audience.
Attractive and effective
AoB PLANTS offers a dynamic, open-access environment for publishing high-quality research in the plant sciences. The journal has strong backing from two distinguished institutions. First, it is published by Oxford University Press, one of the oldest and largest academic publishers in the world. Second, along with the journal Annals of Botany, AoB PLANTS is owned by a non-profit organization, the Annals of Botany Company, which has been in existence for over 100 years and has the sole mission of promoting increased understanding of plant biology. With this exceptional foundation, AoB PLANTS is growing rapidly and providing the plant science community with an enduring platform for fast online publishing of high-quality research.
