Why Publish in AoB PLANTS

Open access

Since its establishment in 2009, AoB PLANTS has been published by Oxford University Press as an open-access journal, where articles are available online to anyone, anywhere, free of charge (no personal or institutional subscriptions are required to view or download articles). As of late September 2012, all articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY), which conforms to the most widely accepted definition of open access. This status allows users to copy, distribute and transmit an article, adapt the article and make commercial use of the article. Papers published by AoB PLANTS prior to this date were published under the terms of the CC-BY-NC license (open access, but for non-commercial uses only).

Double-blind peer-review process

The editorial team at AoB PLANTS believes that the personal characteristics of authors (gender, ethnicity, affiliation, seniority, reputation, etc.) should not influence the handling of manuscripts during the peer-review process. Thus, since its inception, AoB PLANTS has evaluated manuscripts using a double-blind process, wherein the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed during peer review.

Scientific rigour

Although authors are required to discuss the novelty and significance of their work, the editorial team at AoB PLANTS bases decisions to accept or reject papers solely on scientific rigour and leaves judgements about the wider importance of published works to the scientific community.

Rapid publication

AoB PLANTS is committed to rapid assessment of submitted manuscripts and to publication online within days of acceptance. The journal strives to provide authors with initial editorial decisions within 30 days of submission.

Low publication charges

All open-access fees have been waived until January 2015
Our publication charge of $1000 per article is one of the lowest levied by any open-access journal in the biological sciences and illustrates the commitment of AoB PLANTS to provide an economical means for rapidly publishing research to a global audience.

Widespread indexing

2013 Impact Factor score will be released in June 2014!
Thomson Reuters has recently accepted AoB PLANTS for coverage in Science Citation Index, Current Contents, BIOSIS Previews, and Biological Abstracts. All articles published in AoB PLANTS since its establishment in 2010 will begin appearing in Web of Science as of October 2013.

Manuscripts published in AoB PLANTS are also deposited into PubMed Central, the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journals, and are indexed or listed by Google Scholar, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and a wide variety of other sources. AoB PLANTS continually pursues other appropriate abstract and indexing services to ensure wide visibility of articles published in the journal.

A dependable publication

Although still a young journal, AoB PLANTS has strong backing from two distinguished institutions. First, it is published by Oxford University Press, one of the oldest and largest academic publishers in the world. Second, along with the journal Annals of Botany, AoB PLANTS is owned by a non-profit organization, the Annals of Botany Company, which has been in existence for over 100 years and has the sole mission of promoting increased understanding of plant biology. With this exceptional foundation, AoB PLANTS is growing rapidly and provides the plant science community with an enduring platform for fast online publishing of high-quality research.
