A publishing partnership

OUP publishes more than 500 of the highest quality journals, two-thirds of which are published in partnership with learned societies, charitable organisations, and prestigious institutions. Our journals are as diverse as the communities they serve, from offering multimedia surgery videos to open supplementary datasets. We have the highest quality list of any major publisher globally, which gives your research a home alongside award-winning content, and our global presence will help you to reach readers and achieve impact.

There are many reasons to publish with OUP, and to find the right home for your research, please browse the Journal A-Z or find out more about our Open Research publishing.

An author-focused approach

We prioritize simplicity and effectiveness, and are committed to offering the best possible publishing experience for authors. Throughout the production process you will receive simple communications and updates, with access to our dedicated Author Support team should queries arise.

After publication we continue to support you, and provide a toolkit for promoting articles, including:

  • Author sharing link: a free-access article permalink for you to share quickly, easily and sustainably. The link provides online and PDF functionality, with no time or viewing limits.
  • Assistance and advice for promoting articles and increasing article SEO.
  • Video abstracts and presentations to introduce work to colleagues and other readers.
  • Lay summary functionality.
  • Article-level metrics, including usage, citations, and Altmetric scores on the article page.

Our values

Commitment to excellent quality

At OUP we know how important quality is to successful publishing and we believe we offer the best service available in the industry. Quality control measures are in place at every stage of the publishing process, and we continually review and update these based upon feedback and new functionality. All technological innovations and workflow developments are undertaken with quality in mind.

Innovation in digital publishing

Your article will be on our Oxford Academic platform, which provides a comprehensive suite of features and capabilities for authors. Oxford Academic is easy to use, allowing readers to discover and explore your content from any device. It has been developed using award-winning technology to meet the community’s research needs. There is powerful faceted searching across text and images, downloadable content to enable offline use, and static DOIs and social tools so that readers can share and discuss your article easily. Readers can also use their own accessibility tools and software, as we continue our work to adhere to evolving accessibility standards, including the World Wide Web Consortium guidelines

Supporting access

We want our scholarship and research to be available to as many people as possible, and OUP is committed to supporting new and different business models in the dissemination of our scholarly research.

Part of the academic community

Fundamental to OUP is its mission – it sets us apart from commercial competitors. As a university press we have no shareholders to satisfy, so any financial surplus is applied in the pursuit of educational and scholarly objectives of the University and the Press, either through financial returns to our publishing partners, reinvestment in our publishing programmes, or the transfer of funds to the University. As a part of the scholarly community, we work collaboratively and cooperatively to ensure our publishing and the way we share it works for everyone who needs it.

Inclusion and diversity

Oxford University Press is deeply committed to fostering an academic community that supports and benefits from the talents of researchers from a wide range of backgrounds. In line with this, and as a founding member of the Joint Commitment for Action on Inclusion and Diversity in Publishing, we aim to collect and share anonymised demographic data from our authors and reviewers. Authors submitting to our journals will have the option of giving information on their gender, race and ethnicity – if authors choose to submit this data, it will be collected and stored anonymously, and will not be linked to their account or their article submission. All data submitted will be used in aggregate to get a better picture of the authors submitting to our journals, as well as to measure our efforts to appeal to a diverse range of authors and provide an equitable peer review experience. If you have any questions about this data collection that haven’t been answered here, please do get in touch with us at Journals.DEI@oup.com.
